Royal Visit to Opening of a New Wing at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, received a warm welcome from the children and staff when they visited Great Ormond Street Hospital on Tuesday 21st November.

In a relaxed and unhurried visit, they spoke to many families in the hospital, met a range of staff, and thanked supporters of the hospital, before officially opening the new Octav Botnar Wing.

Families talked about how much better facilities are in the new Octav Botnar Wing than in the oldest parts of the hospital.

GOSH Chairman Sir Cyril Chantler briefly spelled out the challenge facing the hospital in raising the money to replace these older facilities.

His Royal Highness gave a personal account of his time as a patient in the hospital and thanked the staff and all those who had contributed. He also said that the expertise of Great Ormond Street was good for the reputation of the United Kingdom around the world.

The Octav Botnar Wing was paid for entirely by charitable funds, including generous donations from - and fundraising carried out by - the Camelia Botnar Foundation, The Hon Martin and Zoe Harris, Mr Andrew Reynolds and Mrs Phyllis Somers.
